Lacosamide is an analogue of D-serine, an endogenous amino acid that acts as a modulator of NMDA receptors. In vitro electrophysiological studies have shown that lacosamide selectively enhances the slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs), thereby stabilizing hyperexcitable neuronal membranes.

Lacosamide Oral Solution is primarily indicated as adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy aged 4 years and older.
